When my great-niece was two years old, she had a pet kitten. She chose the name Mittens because of a story she loved ….But, Mittens wanted to be in his own story. He wanted his own adventures ….
Mittens’ adventures also turned into an adventure for me as I illustrated the text for my very first picture book. I turned lovely Mittens the kitten into a papercut and soon he was in his own story.
My own Mitten adventure was started by completing an on-line illustration course. What a learning curve that turned out to be, and a fabulous introduction to the world of illustrating storybooks for children.
Mittens has turned out to be quite a character and it is even more of an adventure to know he is now in print.
in GAP (The Guild of American Papercutters)
My papercutting world continues to expand as I get to know paper-cutters from around the world. I became a member of The Guild of American Papercutters (GAP) last year and so enjoy the opportunity to participate in events and opportunities offered by the Guild. GAP is a membership-based community that promotes awareness about, preserves the heritage of, and advances the art of papercutting. I am so happy to be able to attach the GAP logo to my future work.

Very excited to see my Papercuts in British Vogue.
I was delighted to be approached to feature some of my work in British Vogue. ‘Vogue’s Gallery’.
The decision was made so much easier when my teenage granddaughter literally started dancing around the kitchen in excitement!
Yes, I really am going to be able to say, “as seen in Vogue”!!!!
Choosing a selection of three papercuts for the October, November and December 2022 editions was an interesting experience. I have created quite a number of different designs in my time so had to make some decisions. I enjoy creating all of my papercuts but some designs do become favourites.
Vogue’s Gallery featured “A trio of Swallowtails” in October.
This butterfly papercut design has also been made into stained glass windows as a Birthday present.
In November it was very poignant to see ‘Time and Tide’ featured in the gallery
Especially as the cover that month was a commemorative purple in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
There is something very special about being commissioned to create a personalised papercut.
Be it for a celebration or a bespoke papercut of ‘home’ , with all its memories and meanings. Such a papercut has been my December choice.
Please contact me for further information, I would be delighted to discuss ideas and proposals: email imbpapercuts@gmail.com
